The OpenSource Days

You can see some shots taken during the first “OpenSource Days”, an event proposed by Magirus (Byte-Code Partner) and sponsored by RedHat and MySQL (also Byte-Code partner….).

Good partecipation (especially in Rome) with very interesting contacts.

After the cancellation of “Linux World Expo” it could be one of the most important event about Linux and OpenSource in Italy with “business” point of view

RedHat Summit

Great days spend in San Diego during annual RedHat Summit. Food, drinks and funny social networking events with “redhat crowd”. Especially I’m happy for the meeting with guys from “et-mgmt-tool” group, one of the most interesting project sponsored by RedHat.

Please, have a look about cobbler and puppet. I think these solutions may be one of the most innovative point of view in provisioning services and configuration management

MeetUp2007

First annual MeetUp made by Byte-Code! A funny day spent in technical and strategical sessions and GOLF! Golf is a strange sport. I thought it should be not so hard, like a “game”, not a sport… instead it’s very very hard! At the end of the day all people were very tired but happy to be there. :-)

LinuxDay 2006 - Lodi

Today LOLUG has presented OpenSource tecnology and Linux environment to Lodi during Linux Day.

All has gone well! The location, PC (from sponsors), presentations and workshops have been great! I think 2007 could be the year for LoLUG to expand their product…

Linux World Summitt 2006

Two days spent at the Linux World Summit (Milan, Marriott Hotel).

There were a lot of difference from last year: no expo area (only ten pre-built booths), no partners area and no certification area.

I’m not so sure this kind of event (summit) is a good format. I think the latest Linux World was better, beacuse a large expo area permitted you to have the right space to increase the relationship between expositors and visitors.

The great plus of this edition was the free buffet offered to visitors. ;-)
Unfortunately the organization used a strange method to assign booths: alphabetical order! The reason is simple: only ten stands into a small area. They couldn’t permit to privilege someone…

This assignment was the reason of the distance between Byte-Code booth and RedHat booth. Thanks to Roberto and his totem we could recreate a strong relationship…

So, now, we’ve got to consider the pros and cons of the situation: small area, a few exibitors, free buffet, business style meeting… I don’t know… I do hope next year the organizers are able to make a more interesting and useful event!

We are waiting for LinuxWorld (expo!!!) 2007

…but is always a great occasion to meet the old friends and know the new ones ;-)

Linux Tag 2006 - Wiesbaden

A yearly visit to Linux Tag (this year in Wiesbaden, Germany).

My impressions? Mmmm… interesting… but not like last year.

The location was more small then 2005 edition, with a lot of differences:

  • during 2005 there were much more lectures;
  • during 2005 there were much more expositors;
  • during 2005 there were much more interesting expositors;
  • during 2005 there were much more space for comunity area.

I think there are some coincidences with LinuxWorldSummit 2006 (Italy version)… strange same downsizing…

Like any other years, the Germany location is wonderful! Small town (not so smal, actually…) with a lot of green park and pedestrian areas… A very great place for a walk in the park!

I’ve got to thanks the “Flight Gear” team for suggestions and tips about flight rules. They prepared a three-monitors for simulations with joystikck and pedal keys, as well as germany locations with real flight-maps! Very, very, very amusing!!!

They also showed me the new features of Flight Gear (not in nightly build yet), like server component to display the aircrafts position on google maps!

RedHat Partner Forum - Cannes 2006

I was at the RedHat Partner Forum in Cannes (France) between the 26th and 28th of April.

A realy nice event with some big-boss from RedHat. The event was reserved only to RedHat Advanced Partners, and we were guest in Sofitel Mediterrane in Cannes during the event.

The event started with a cocktail on the 7th floor at 7:00 PM, that continued until night, among drinks and alcoholics… ;-) (snack, music, girls, rock and roll, and so on…)

In the next morning, at 8.00 AM, I had breakfast (french croissants and toast with honey) with some friends from Bristol and London.

After a boring kick-off (only 4 hours during the morning), the partners were divided into different teams for sailing activities planned for the afternoon.
The sailing regatta started at 2.00 PM with 5 boats, but after few minutes our skipper offered us some beer and some strange cocktails, and the result was clear: we arrived last at the finish line :-(

In the evening we left Cannes to go to a small town in Provence for a great french dinner (based on “foie gras” and another heavy dishes…). I spent much time talking to Netherlands and French partners.
The last day of the event started with a round-table workshop with RedHat managers and regional partners: the goal waas to find some suggestions that could help RedHat and Partners businnes in different countries.

The morning ended with bowl activities and a “light” lunch in a resturant placed on the croisettes.

Funny and profitable event :-)

Merry Christmas Byte-Code!

Time of christmas’ party in Byte-Code!

We have organized a fanny party in “Art Factory“, realy nice resturant in Milan.

I think it is much more “fashion” then “funny”… and this made the location very “trendy”, but quite different from a resturant…

The programme was clear: drink, drink and drink. Unfortunately I never drink… my glass stayed in my hand all the time. (always full, of course)

Art Factory

After same drinks, I have to consider the opportunity to prohibit drive to precious Byte-Code engineers & architects…

Linux Tag 2005 - Karlsruhe (Germany)

First time in Linux Tag!

The style of event is similar to Linux Word Expo, but “comunity area” is very active here. I’ve met Alex (RedHat) that I haven’t seen since April.

There’s only one problem: the hot! In germany air conditioned does not exist (also in shopping centers…).

See you in Linux Tag next year!
